On Thursday, February 1st, 2024, The Port Light officially released a physical copy of the newspaper for the first time in over a decade. Advisor Mr. Thomas ordered physical copies to have the newspaper reach the community, not just in PCHS but throughout Port Chester. Mr. Thomas wants to continue the tradition of newspapers since he was in his school’s newspaper in high school. He announced it on the intercom early in the morning. They were displayed on a blue stand in the main hallway, which is where everyone walks, meaning they can see it easily. Throughout the day, students picked up newspapers and read them. The release of a physical copy isn’t just beneficial for Port Light, but also helpful for the student readers as it contains lots of information about the school, which keeps students updated on everything happening around them.

Mr. Thomas said that he is very proud of all the students who contributed. “They’re all very passionate and care about the content,” said Mr. Thomas. “They work very hard and put a lot of effort into their writing. They want it to be excellent.” He is also really proud of the fact that Port Light has been recognized by New York State.

Port Light’s goal is to regularly print out a monthly physical edition of the newspaper. We want the newspaper to reach the PC community physically every month in addition to digitally.

Every month, more newspaper copies will be printed and displayed on the stand in the main hallway. The first edition was a success. The newspapers were gone from the stands in two days. The Port Light hopes that this continues every time copies are printed.
