The Port Chester Rams Girls Basketball team stands resilient amid a challenging season with a current record of 3-6. Despite the win-loss ratio, the team is gearing up for intense matchups this week. They are fully aware that victories are not guaranteed but are determined to leave their mark on the court.
Their schedule presents formidable opponents: an away game against Lincoln High School and home games against Horace Greeley Gorton High School. Rams player, Karah Provenzano, emphasizes that regardless of the outcome, these games will be hard-fought battles that each present an opportunity to showcase the team’s determination.
Off the court, the team aims to strengthen their bond. Provenzano underlines the significance of trust among teammates for ultimate success in basketball. With several new players, building relationships and building team chemistry are priorities. Strengthening these bonds off the court is pivotal to fostering unity during gameplay.
One of the team’s greatest assets lies in their ability to enjoy the game irrespective of the score or their record. Provenzano credits the coaches for creating an environment that balances competitiveness with fun, making practices and games something players look forward to each day. Positivity remains a driving force behind their approach to the sport.
However, the team faces challenges due to their youth. Among the 12 players, only 5 are upperclassmen. Provenzano acknowledges the hurdle posed by more experienced opponents; junior and senior-dominated teams accustomed to varsity level play. The younger team members are continually working to bridge this gap in skill and experience while understanding that the journey to reach the level of their competitors will require time and effort.
