As the holidays approach and the Thanksgiving school break draws near, the IB team has planned for a Friendsgiving on Wednesday, the 22nd. This event invites all diploma candidates to spend the day together eating foods, conversing, and playing games.

A Friendsgiving is a Thanksgiving-style event shared by friends. It allows people that are close to spend time together and share holiday traditions.

Organized by the head of the program, Richard Laconi, his intentions are clear as to why events such as these are created. “Being an IB diploma candidate is a difficult pathway for students to take. However, the sense of comradery amongst the students is one of the pillars of the program, as such it is important that we take time to celebrate their accomplishments and further develop the connections the students could make with each other.” said Mr. Laconi.

Laconi acknowledges the importance of the friendships created between diploma candidates. He understands that it’s necessary for the students in the program to support each other as they take on the same rigorous courses.

This holds true as this is not the only event the team has had let alone this year. Earlier in the year, the IB team met at Colony Grill down by the Waterfront to share pizzas and time together.

What’s almost as equally important as these student-student friendships are the relationships students have with their teachers and advisors. This is why Laconi invites the entire team to events and this one will be no different.

As for food options, students have planned to bring in empanadas, lomo saltado, mashed potatoes, flautas, spring rolls, pancit luglug, and tons of different drinks and desserts, all of which will be enjoyed by the entire IB team.

“The IB’s November celebration is important to hold to recognize IB students for their hard work. We are looking forward to hosting more celebrations in the year, to show students that their dedication to the IB Diploma is acknowledged and appreciated.” said Emily Macchia, a teacher and an advisor in the IB team.
