Having taught at Port Chester Schools for more than two decades, Michael Mouracade is most certainly a veteran at PC. With all this experience under his belt, Mr. Mouracade is a key part of our Ramily.

Having grown up in Larchmont, New York, Mr. Mouracade went to Mamaroneck High School. There, Mr. Mouracade’s interest in History would start, as he recalls having an amazing history teacher growing up. After his time in MHS, he chose to go to Roanoke College, located in Salem, Virginia, in order to pursue a history degree. While a student at Roanoke College, Mr. Mouracade continued to have excellent history teachers, which he believes ultimately caused to go into education and become a history teacher.

Returning to New York to teach, Mr. Mouracade taught in Alfred E. Smith High School, located in The Bronx, New York, for 12 years. Then, Mr. Mouracade chose to transfer to Port Chester High School, where he has taught for 23 years. During his time here in PCHS, Mr. Mouracade has taught a vast majority of classes that relate to history, but nowadays sticks to teaching Global 1, Global 2, and Art History.

Even though he has been teaching for a long time, Mr. Mouracade hasn’t made any major changes in the way he teaches; he believes that sticking to a traditional style of teaching where students take notes and write by hand, is the best way to teach, and also believes that students need a break from computer screens. Mr. Mouracade has had a great time in PCHS, and when asked what he enjoys most about teaching, Mr. Mouracade said, “Working with the students and challenging them and seeing them succeed.”

Anyone who’s had a class with Mr. Mouracade would know two things about him, one, he loves fishing, and two, he calls everyone “Jack.” Mr. Mouracade says that the reason he calls everyone Jack is because his father used to do the same thing, so it rubbed off on him. After school, Mr. Mouracade not only fishes, but he also enjoys spending time with his family and his kids. When asked to give a piece of advice to students, Mr. Mouracade said that, “Everything can’t be entertaining or fun, but it’s a means to an end, you gotta work through boring things.”

Mr. Mouracade is an important part of our Ramily. After over two decades of teaching, he is most certainly an experienced teacher, and cares deeply about his students and their success. While his style of teaching may be different from other teachers, Mr. Mouracade uses it in hopes to challenge and prepare students for their future.
