Recently, students at PCHS have found a new non-school affiliated page on Instagram. The private page hinders non-followers from accessing their posts and whatever else lies in the account. However, curiosity has been crawling through students, staff, and admin within the school. After an in depth interview with those behind the page, the Portlight has all the information you need. PCHS Rate My Teacher is an Instagram account made by students to help the underclassmen of Port Chester High School navigate their course selections and schedules. The page features reviews of teachers based on the personal experiences of fellow students, providing insight into the teaching style, classroom atmosphere, and workload present in the course. Although it isn’t an official school page, it serves as a valuable asset for students who are looking to make informed decisions about their future classes and teachers.
The PCHS Rate My Teacher page is run by two upperclassmen, both of whom would like to remain anonymous. They said that they were inspired to create the page by the website known as “Rate My Professor,” a platform with a similar premise but for college students, as well as the PCHS Decisions page, with them saying, that “[they]eally admire that account’s professionalism and its genuine usefulness for students as well as parents.” The two owners made it to act like an older sibling, someone that has the first hand experience of having the teachers before you, and can tell you what to expect when learning from them. According to the managers they enjoy running the account even with the added stress of sifting through many unposted replies in order to keep the account active and running smoothly. They see it as a genuine use of time that will help the students at the school have their best time at PCHS.
While there have been many concerns voiced regarding the possible slandering of teachers, the account runners would like to ensure that the page intends no harm. The overall goal is not to talk poorly about the amazing educators at PCHS, but to instead help students decide if a certain teaching style or class can work well for them. PCHS Rate My Teachers is only here to help students maximize the education they receive in their four years.
As for the future of the account, when the two owners of the account graduate, they hope to find trusted underclassmen to pass the torch too and help keep the account running smoothly for as long as possible. But for now, they encourage you to send in your reviews of the teachers you’ve had and help them make Port Chester High School a better place for its students.
